‘Very similar to Jerrod Bowen’: Jack Clarke could be on the move to East London
Over recent years, West Ham have dipped into the Championship market in order to find some untapped potential and to mixed success. Someone like Said Benrahma never reached the heights we would have hoped for, but Jarrod Bowen is arguably David Moyes’ most important player.
While they’ve been linked with a move for a number of foreign players, the Hammers could once again turn to the second tier of English football as they look to bolster their attack this January.
The Mirror has reported that Sunderland’s Jack Clarke could be on the move to East London. The 23-year-old winger has been on fire this season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 2 in the league.
In some ways, he is very similar to Jarrod Bowen; brilliant on the ball with a great finish, but lacks the speed you would ideally like in a wide player.
As we have seen many times though, some players fail to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League. Some have criticised his performance against Newcastle in the FA Cup, but as a one-off derby game it would not really be a fair assessment of his skill.
If he does come to West Ham, he must be given the time to adapt. He is a brilliant, young player with so much potential to be a top Premier League player, it is just about it Moyes can bring out the best in him. It is uncertain what the Black Cats would ask for him but, whatever the price tag is, it would be worth the risk.
