‘Did really well’ Tottenham man seriously impresses manager after ‘excellent’ loan display

20-year-old Josh Keeley has also embarked on his first loan spell away from the club joining Barnet for the remainder of the season.

Keeley made his debut against Altrincham in a disappointing 3-2 defeat yesterday.

However, his new manager Dean Brennan did take time to praise his keeper as the side’s stand out performer.

Speaking after the game via Barnet’s Youtube, Brennan was particularly pleased with the keeper’s distribution.

He said: “I actually thought Josh did really well, I’ll be honest I thought he sweeped really well and his distribution was excellent.

“He made some good saves when he had to.”

Keeley joined Spurs in the summer of 2022 and has amassed 30 appearances for the side’s under-21 team.

And it seems the Tottenham loanee will now have a chance to prove his first team credentials in January and beyond.

It remains to be seen if Keeley will have a first team future with Postecoglou’s side, however there’s certainly a vacancy.

Fraser Forster is currently backing up Guglielmo Vicario but there’s no reason to think a youngster couldn’t challenge the number two.

35-year-old Forster is a strong shot-stopper but is not known for his ball-playing ability.

And with Keeley’s new manager celebrating his distribution, the Tottenham loanee could definitely catch the eye.

Perhaps Spurs will look to sign a new goalkeeper next summer, someone to compete with Vicario – but until then, there’s definitely an opportunity to be had.

That being said, Tottenham will surely be focusing on more pressing matters for the remainder of January.

And if they do get deal for Werner over the line, Spurs should then make another former Chelsea player their top target for the rest of the window.
