Everton: Stan Collymore explodes after controversial Dominic Calvert-Lewin red card v Crystal Palace
Stan Collymore has labelled Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s red card in Everton versus Crystal Palace as “one of the worst decisions I have ever seen”.
Writing in his column for Caught Offside [6 January] the former Liverpool striker admitted he was stunned by the decision to send off the Toffees striker.
Everton have already appealed the decision and many expect it to be overturned, with the replays of the incident showing that the contact was minimal.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s red card on Thursday night in the FA Cup was one of the worst decisions I have ever seen, but the problem with that is, that seeing those kind of mind-boggling decisions is not even surprising any more,” he wrote.

It’s been days since the incident and it’s still at the front of so many people’s minds because of just how bad it was.
There was no suggestion that Calvert-Lewin had gone in with excessive force, he wasn’t out of control by any stretch of the imagination and while there was contact that doesn’t make it a foul nevermind a red card.
The FA have made it clear that they want Everton to suffer with punishments this season after the ten point deduction they handed out for no good reason, and this adds to the belief of many that they are out to get Everton.
If Calvert-Lewin is suspended for three games it will show that VAR is a farce and everyone will be able to see it, because the backlash is very clear that this is wrong – and it’s coming from ex-Liverpool players like Collymore as well as die-hard Toffees.
It was a shocking decision, a terrible call and if the officials own up to the fact they got it wrong then at least we can move on without being punished further for it.
