Dejan Kulusevski’s hopes of reaching the same tournament suffered a blow, however, as his Sweden side lost 3-1 at home to Austria, leaving them third in Group F, seven points off second spot. ‘Deki’ provided the assist for Emil Holm’s late consolation goal for the hosts, but it was too little, too late.

Yves Bissouma started for Mali away to Ivory Coast, but the match was halted at half-time due to weather problems in Abidjan with the score at 0-0.
In the younger age categories, Josh Keeley kept a clean sheet to help Republic of Ireland Under-21s secure a 3-0 home win over San Marino in qualifying for the European Under-21 Championship finals, while Mikey Moore and Callum Olusesi were in action for England Under-17s as they rounded off their week-long tournament campaign in Spain with a 4-1 victory against the host nation. Mikey started and played 67 minutes before being substituted, with Callum introduced off the bench at the same time as the Young Lions made a raft of changes.
