Liverpool made proposal to sign 26-year-old Newcastle player last summer, he didn’t want to join

Liverpool reportedly made a proposal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the summer, though the move was rejected.

The 26-year-old Brazilian international has been linked with a move to Anfield for quite some time, with Liverpool interested in signing Guimaraes in the transfer window earlier this year.

However, with Guimaraes recently penning a new contract with the Magpies, any hope over a potential move for Liverpool could now be off the table for a year or two.

And according to Football Transfers, Liverpool made an attempt to sign Guimaraes this summer from Newcastle, though the proposal was shot down by the Magpies.

Indeed, Guimaraes would have been a sensational signing for Liverpool given how impressive the midfielder has been in the Premier League for Newcastle in the last two years.

Yet with the Toon rejecting Liverpool’s proposal for Guimaraes, it appears that the dream to sign the midfielder will be put on hold for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool were fully aware that their best chance to sign Guimaraes would come last summer when Newcastle had yet to agree a new deal with the midfielder.

And with the Magpies getting the contract over the line, the Reds might now feel like they have no chance of ever signing Guimaraes later down the line.

As we know, Newcastle want as much as £100m for Guimaraes, a fee the Anfield side simply won’t put down for a 26-year-old player.

And with other targets out there, Liverpool know they can get more value for their money rather than continuing to chase Guimaraes, even if the Brazilian would be fantastic.
