‘I know’: £50m player’s advisors have been telling Liverpool they really need to sign him now
Liverpool are unlikely to make a significant move in the transfer market this month. But the club will always be attentive to the market. And if the right opportunity arises Liverpool will not shy away from pursuing it.
One area where Jurgen Klopp’s side has room to strengthen is probably still in the holding midfield department. Even though the club has brought in Wataru Endo, at 30 years old the Japanese midfielder does not feel like a long-term solution.
In order to really begin Liverpool 2.0, Klopp needs to find his future long-term number six in the midfield department.
One player who Liverpool has reportedly been offered is Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese international has been superb in the Premier League over the last year or so and is valued at around £50m according to the Daily Star.
Meanwhile, according to transfer expert Alex Crook speaking on talkSPORT, the player’s representatives have offered Palhinha to Liverpool.
“He signed a new contract, that Bayern interest hasn’t gone away although I’m not sure it will happen this month.
“But I know his advisors have been going to the top clubs, the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in particular and saying, look, this player has proved himself a Premier League, do you want to make Fulham an offer?
“At the moment, they’re pushing back on it because of his age, I think he’s 28, that doesn’t necessarily fit the profile that these clubs are willing to do, but I think that’s a mistake because I think he’s just about Fulham’s best player.”
It’s no surprise Palhinha’s representatives are trying to get him a big move. He does deserve to make the next step in his career. However, Liverpool’s reticence makes sense. He will be 29 years old this summer – not exactly the long-term solution Klopp needs.
