Everton transfer news as Winsley Boteli approach emerges at Goodison Park

The Italian news outlet reported on 2 January that the 17-year-old is attracting plenty of attention, having scored 17 goals in 16 under-19 appearances for Monchengladbach so far this season.

Despite interest from the Italian giants, and contact with Everton over a long period, the German outfit have reportedly offered Boteli a new deal to tempt him to remain in Germany.

With Boteli having not made a single senior appearance in his career, the level of interest he is attracting from some of Europe’s top clubs is a display of how impressive he has been at academy level and the hopes for the progression of his career.

His impressive goalscoring form in the youth ranks has piqued Everton’s interest, and they could do a deal to bring him in for the future with an eye to one day progressing into the first team and perhaps selling for a profit.

Kevin Thelwell spoke on the VSI Sporting Directors’ podcast [6 December] about the club’s plan to buy young players with the eventual goal of making a profit on their sales, and the interest in Boteli could be another step towards that plan, with the signing of Youssef Chermiti in the summer of a similar style.

With interest from Juventus and a new contract offer on the table from Monchengladbach, Everton may find it difficult to compete for his signature, but the allure of Premier League football could be the route they use to lure him to Goodison Park.
