Everton reshape on cards as 777 takeover and transfer update emerges
The solid groundwork at Everton this season provides some scope to possibly reshape the squad in the summer window, according to Chris Beesley.
The Liverpool ECHO journalist, writing in his latest article (2 January) shares that despite the club still being in a state of flux regarding the proposed takeover by 777 Partners, Everton can still approach the January window from a “potentially opportunistic” stance.
Beesly adds that it is a significant step compared to this time last year and provides clear scope to “clear the decks” and roll out a substantial reshaping of the current squad.
The American investment firm had initially planned to complete its acquisition before the end of 2023, but as of now, no conclusion or decision has been reached, though, 777 have received approval from the financial conduct authority [The Athletic, 23 December].
Recent results have certainly brought Everton back down to earth again, especially the latest defeat to Wolves over the weekend (30 December) after a tremendous run of wins to kick off December.
It’s now five games without a win in all competitions for Sean Dyche’s men which has certainly left a sour taste in the mouths of the Toffees faithful but it should not take away from the giant strides made under his management.
The 10-point deduction didn’t seem to affect the squad at all and apart from the defeat to Wolves, performances were still very much encouraging especially against Tottenham and Manchester City.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done behind the scenes and within the current playing squad but with uncertainty regarding the proposed takeover from 777 Partners still rambling on, there does not seem to be some scope to do business in January.
But, should the Toffees avoid relegation come May as they are expected to, then this latest development from Beesley certainly provides plenty of hope for the summer window. Then, the takeover should well have been completed.
