Sean Dyche may send Everton board transfer exit demand on Michael Keane after Wolves loss
Everton defender Michael Keane once again proved that he’s no longer capable of being a first-team regular after his display against Wolves.
The Toffees suffered their fourth successive defeat in all competitions at the hands of Wolves in a 3-0 loss at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday (30 December).
Goals from Max Kilman, Matheus Cunha and Craig Dawson leave Everton once again teetering above the relegation places but just a single point.
Ahead of the game, Dyche made a number of changes to the team after their 3-1 loss to Manchester City a few days earlier, reverting to a reserved five-man defensive approach.
However, it woefully backfired as Everton were cut through time and time again by Gary O’Neil’s devastating attack.
One of those key changes was the introduction of senior centre-back Keane who was supposed to add some much-needed solidity and organisation alongside James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, it was another performance to forget for the former Burnley defender who was woeful in his fourth start of the campaign.
As per SofaScore, Keane was dribbled past three times, completed just 68 per cent of his passes, touched the ball just 37 times, won just two of his six ground duel attempts and lost possession of the ball ten times before being dragged off after 63 minutes.
There’s a good chance that Dyche instructs the Toffees board to cash in on him in January as it’s yet another unconvincing display from a player who has been a trusted lieutenant of his for a number of years.
Given Keane’s homegrown status, he certainly may not be short of offers in the January window, especially for clubs in need of a centre-back.
This can also give them funds to bring in someone better than him and perhaps younger so that he’s there for the longer term.
Since taking over, Dyche is unlikely to have found too much in Keane’s game to be impressed with and thus will look to wield the axe from his squad on him if given the chance.
