The only chance Everton have of completing a full transfer for Jack Harrison is if they avoid relegation, ex-club scout Bryan King has said.
The 27-year-old winger joined on a season-long loan from Leeds United in August after making use of a clause allowing him to depart Elland Road on a temporary deal if the club were relegated.
Harrison has two goals and three assists in 14 Premier League outings for the Toffees but his long-term future remains unclear as there was no purchase option included in his loan agreement.
LeedsLive reported on December 18 that Sean Dyche would love to keep Harrison at the club beyond his temporary stint but King thinks that, while Harrison is the sort of player a team like Everton need if the squad, a full transfer might be tricky.
Speaking to Goodison News, he said: “He needs to do a lot more Jack Harrison over 90 minutes but he’s young, he reminds me a little bit of Leon Osman, who was a great servant to Everton.
“So whether they will pursue it that will be decided by whether Everton stay in the Premier League or go into the Championship.
“He might be a bit expensive if Everton go down, but this is the kind of player that make football clubs. (It’s about) recruitment.”
The Toffees are reeling from three straight Premier League defeats having won four on the bounce prior to that run.
It means Everton are just a point above the relegation zone, with 19th-place Luton Town owning a game in hand over them.
Everton are next in action against Crystal Palace on January 4 in the FA Cup and return to Premier League action on 14 January against Aston Villa.
