Borussia Dortmund have entered the race to sign 22-year-old Liverpool target

Borussia Dortmund are the latest club to show an interest in Liverpool target Andre Trindade.

Liverpool had looked odds-on favourites to sign Andre in January. However, recent developments suggest that it’s now Fulham, not the Reds, who are the Brazilian’s most likely destination.

Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has echoed that position. Speaking to Give Me Sport today, Jacobs also revealed that Dortmund are now showing an interest in Andre, too.

“I think that along with some of the clubs that you mentioned that are being linked, like for example Arsenal, we shouldn’t rule out Fulham either,” the journalist explains.

“And I’m also told that Dortmund have entered into the sort of mix in terms of looking at the player and scouting the player as well. And that’s all good news for Fluminense. Sources sort of say £30m/£35m might be the number.

“It’s a relatively open race at the moment, but I think out of the Premier League clubs, it is not necessarily your Tottenham Hotspur’s, Arsenal’s, even Liverpool’s that are pushing at the moment. I think of the teams in the Premier League, Fulham are probably the most active at the moment.”

Dortmund enter Andre chase

What a difference a week makes. This time seven days ago, plenty of Liverpool fans – and Liverpool scouts – were settling in to watch Andre in the Cop Libertadores final.

Feeling rather confident in the chances of the 22-year-old soon becoming their player, Reds supporters cheered Andre on as Fluminense won the continental trophy for the first time.

Since then, things have become rather more uncertain regarding the midfielder joining Liverpool.

This week, there has been a flurry of local reports claiming that the Reds will not be pursuing a move for Andre in January.

As of yet, there has been nothing strong to refute such claims.

Tonight’s update from Jacobs hardly does that either. Unfortunately, it rather looks like Liverpool have given up their spot in this particular race. That’s a shame.

It also isn’t hard to see that if Andre does end up at a Fulham or even a Dortmund, the Reds will come back cap in hand having to pay double for the player in a few years’ time.

Tonight the Brazil international is involved in another huge game for Fluminense – the Rio Derby against neighbours Flamengo. Somehow though, we don’t think too many Liverpool fans will be tuning in. They’re hanging on by a thread in this one.
