The Celtics aim to finish their West Coast trip above .500 in a Christmas showdown showcasing one of the most iconic rivalries in sports.
Despite again rolling his left ankle in Saturday’s 145-108 win over the Los Angeles Clippers, merely days after having to sit out the Celtics’ 144-119 victory vs. the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, it was no surprise Jayson Tatum’s name was absent from Boston’s injury report for its Christmas clash with the Lakers.
A sprained ankle wasn’t keeping the four-time All-Star out of this rivalry matchup in the arena his childhood idol, Kobe Bryant, starred in on the marquee date on the NBA’s regular season calendar.
The Celtics will also have Kristaps Porzingis in the lineup. The seven-foot-three center missed Saturday’s win due to a sprained left ankle.
Luke Kornet returns from a six-game absence caused by a left adductor strain. Lamar Stevens is inactive due to a non-Covid illness. Svi Mykhailiuk is out because of a left heel contusion.
