Tottenham telling Emerson Royal to find new club as asking price revealed
Tottenham will accept an offer of around £20million to sell defender Emerson Royal, sources have told Football Insider.
Spurs chiefs will tell the 25-year-old he is free to find a new club once the transfer window reopens this summer.
The Brazilian international, who is out of contract in June 2026, has lost his place in the Tottenham lineup this season following the arrival of fellow right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.
Spurs are in the market for multiple new defenders this summer, including full-backs and centre-backs as Ange Postecoglou looks to tighten up at the back.
Emerson Royal likely to leave Tottenham this summer
It’s been a mixed time for Royal at Tottenham since he arrived from Barcelona in the summer of 2021 for £25.8million.
Although the right-back has made 100 appearances for the club – 23 of which have come this season – he hasn’t exactly pulled up any trees during that time.
The Brazilian has been filling in at left-back in recent weeks following Destiny Udogie’s season-ending injury.
While Royal has recorded a 91 per cent pass success rate this season, he’s only created one big chance, which is relatively low for a modern-day full-back.
Porro, meanwhile, has created 13 big chances for his side, showing why he’s jumped ahead of his teammate in the pecking order.
Postecoglou is now willing to let Royal move on to free up some cash for potential new recruits this summer.
The Spurs boss is looking to strengthen his defensive options after his side conceded 58 Premier League goals this season, hampering their top-four hopes.
