Everton set for talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin as exit-linked striker switches agents at Goodison Park
Everton are set to begin contract negotiations with striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin following a change of agents, according to Daily Mail.
The national newspaper reported [22 December, page 69] that the Toffees are set to enter into talks with their star forward before the January transfer window, with the player expected to attract interest.
Calvert-Lewin, who changed agencies to Wasserman Media Group, has 18 months left on his current contract but Everton would like to tie him down to a long-term deal at Goodison Park.
Key Sports Management previously represented the 29-year-old until Wasserman bought them three years ago, an agency that has worked with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher.
Tieing Calvert-Lewin down to a long-term deal would be huge for Sean Dyche and Everton. Although the striker has had his injury in recent seasons, he looks to be back for good and is vital to the Toffees’ style of play.
Plus, if bigger clubs are to state their interest in the player during next month’s transfer window, Everton may be open to sell if the fee is tempting. This is much more likely if Calvert-Lewin has more than 18 months left on his contract.
In the previous two seasons, Calvert-Lewin has managed just 17 appearances in each but has already reached 13 appearances for this campaign with over half of the Premier League still yet to play.
Calvert-Lewin could be a very important player this season, with one eye still focused on relegation due to the Profit and Sustainability breach. Despite just three league goals to his name, and the only real backup in Beto, the striker’s tall stature and ability to hold the ball up matches Dyche’s style of play perfectly.
