Michigan National Signing Day Capsule: WR I’Marion Stewart
Michigan has landed several players from the Chicagoland area, who have gone on to be major contributors in the program. The Wolverines and wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy have looked to keep that pipeline going and offered dynamic 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver I’Marion Stewart way back in April of 2022. It was a national recruitment with many heavy-hitters chasing his services, but Bellamy forged a strong rapport with the talented youngster on several visits up to campus especially following a trip for the BBQ at the Big House recruiting event.
Bellamy worked him out there and instantly the playmaker became a top priority for the staff. While others pursued and made their case why he should choose their school, the Wolverines would win out as he committed in June over offers from Wisconsin, Colorado, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami-FL, Oregon and more. Stewart would go to make a strong senior season with Chicago Kenwood and prepare for his future in Ann Arbor.
Scouting Report:
Per Bolingbrook head football coach John Ivlow (who coached Stewart for three years before he transferred for his senior season)
“This year, he had 950 yards receiving I think and returned punts and kicks. He’s a phenomenal punt returner, probably the best I’ve had. Even on kickoffs, he’ll break that first tackle. A lot of guys try to take him down and he’ll truck ‘em, or bounce off his thighs. If he can put on another 15 pounds this year going into next season, look out.”
Why Michigan?
“First off, it was the feeling I get from Michigan,” Stewart told 247Sports. “The feeling I had there was that it always felt like home. The relationship they built wasn’t just with me, but with my family members also — my mom and dad. They would check in every day to see how we were all doing. Coach Moore and Coach Bellamy did that for sure.”
Bottom Line:
Michigan hit the jackpot last cycle with wide receiver Semaj Morgan, who has shown his big play ability in multiple areas of the game. Stewart can bring that same explosiveness, elusiveness and agility to score anytime he touches the ball. He’s a fast, twitchy athlete that has a lot of versatility with his skill-set and game, which brings tons of value on offense and in the return game. Stewart has a chance to make an impact his freshman year and bring another element to this offense along with on special teams in the return game.
