Fabrizio Romano drops hint about Tottenham centre back hunt

Romano was speaking on Kick Streaming on Tuesday night and was asked for some news about Tottenham’s January transfer plans.

Romano responded by stating that he will ‘say something tomorrow’ (Wednesday) as he is ‘working on something’ to publish.

The transfer insider noted that Tottenham will ‘for sure’ make a signing in January and a centre back is the priority.

Genoa defender Radu Dragusin is thought to be a prime target but Romano promised to release a new update on Tottenham’s centre back chase today.

“I will say something tomorrow about Tottenham,” said Romano. “I will say something tomorrow, I am working on something about Tottenham but I will say something tomorrow. In general, Tottenham will do something for sure in January. A centre back remains the priority

“Tottenham are keeping a close eye on this talented centre back playing for Genoa, Radu Dragusin, we already mentioned that in the past. Tottenham and Newcastle have sent their people multiple times to follow him. Tomorrow I will give you more on Tottenham and their centre back search for January,” he added.

Dragusin is shining for Genoa in Serie A and Tottenham appear to be rivalling Newcastle for his signature.

The Romanian is only 21 and has huge potential, but we think Tottenham could still look towards homegrown options.

Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah continue to be linked whilst Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly offers a left-footed option, meaning he could be ideal cover for Van de Ven.

Adarabioyo and Kelly are both out of contract next summer and could represent cut-price moves for Tottenham.

Both are quick and athletic, two desired attributes in any Postecoglou back line.

Chalobah is likely available in January but continued injury problems will be a concern.

Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is now emerging as a key target too with talks ongoing over a £35million move.

The former Barcelona centre back is one of Ligue 1’s top defenders and Tottenham are believed to be accelerating a move.

Maybe Romano has a new name in the mix with Tottenham looking far and wide for a new defender.

Tottenham won’t want to break the bank for a defender given that Romero and Van de Ven will likely continue as the first-choice pairing, but it’s clear that adding another option is a key focus.
