Onana slammed after footage emerges from Everton v Fulham Carabao Cup clash
Dave Downie has savaged Amadou Onana’s antics as he missed a penalty that could’ve seen Everton beat Fulham in the Carabao Cup.
Instead, the Belgian took a tame penalty and missed with the Cottagers eventually winning it to make it to the semi-finals.
Downie, a BBC journalist has labelled the midfielder arrogant as footage has emerged of his penalty miss.
Via Twitter, he wrote, “That from Onana was atrocious. To get through to a semi-final and he chooses to be so arrogant.”
Onana’s penalty miss in the Carabao Cup match against Fulham has been strongly criticised by many fans and rightly so, as this is not how he should be conducting himself.
Being confident is one thing, but this was clearly something else and he paid the price for not taking the occasion seriously.
By opting for a lacklustre penalty attempt in such a crucial moment, Onana not only failed to seize the opportunity to secure a win for his team in perhaps the last quarter-final match at Goodison Park.
In a tournament where progression to the semi-finals is at stake, such a miss can be viewed as a significant letdown for the team.
To avoid future setbacks, the Belgian could benefit from learning the importance of composure and responsibility, realising that individual actions on the field can have far-reaching consequences for the team’s success.
Sean Dyche will undoubtedly not be pleased with this either, especially given how important Onana has been to his side’s cause.
