Paul Brown shares whether Jarrad Branthwaite will exit in January amid ‘unsustainable’ Everton situation
A few clubs are looking to see if they can take advantage of the financial situation at Everton to sign defender Jarrad Branthwaite in a “bargain” deal, according to Paul Brown.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (13 December), the former Daily Star journalist said it’s an “unsustainable” situation for the Toffees to continue surviving on loans provided by 777 Partners to keep the club going.
He believes the Blues will do all they can to keep hold of the England U-21 international, but that there is a “little window of opportunity” for sides to come in and sign him.
“That is the issue that Everton face and because clubs know it, I think there are a few clubs circling thinking they can get a bargain out of Everton because they can take advantage of their financial position,” said Brown.
“You have to remember that the club is currently surviving on loans from a potential buyer each month just to keep the club going and that’s an unsustainable situation.
“So I think Everton will do all they can to keep hold of Braithwaite, but there is a little window of opportunity for other clubs there that I think they are trying to take advantage of.”
Can’t let it happen
There is absolutely no way that Everton can afford to let Branthwaite go in January after his performances over the past few months.
The centre-back has played a major role in helping the club turn around their fortunes after nailing down a place in the starting lineup after senior players struggled to find any form in the opening weeks of the campaign.
It’s no real surprise to hear that clubs are eyeing a move for the Englishman after he has shown strength in the tackle and quality on the ball.
The Toffees have been excellent at the back this season as they hold one of the best defensive records in the Premier League, backed by their current run of three clean sheets in a row.
The Blues will be looking for the defender to continue helping them progress up the table this season in the hope that he will still be at Goodison Park once the end of the January window comes around.
