Clubs now think ‘magnificent’ Tottenham target could be available at cut-price in January

Paul Brown claims clubs are ‘circling’ for Tottenham Hotspur target Jarrad Branthwaite as they believe he could be available at a cut-price in January.

Tottenham have been heavily linked for a swoop for Jarrad Branthwaite next month.

Ange Postecoglou will be keen to snap up a central defender in January following Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury.

Spurs have already been linked with moves for a host of centre-backs, but recent reports suggest they really admire Branthwaite.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a key player for the Toffees this term after spending the last campaign on loan at PSV.

And Brown has told GiveMeSport that clubs believe they can get a ‘bargain’ out of Everton due to their financial struggles.

Brown claims that there could be a ‘window of opportunity’ for clubs to land Branthwaite.

“That is the issue that Everton face and because clubs know it, I think there are a few clubs circling thinking they can get a bargain out of Everton because they can take advantage of their financial position,” the journalist said.

“You have to remember that the club is currently surviving on loans from a potential buyer each month just to keep the club going and that’s an unsustainable situation.

“So I think Everton will do all they can get a hold of Braithwaite, but there is a little window of opportunity for other clubs there that I think they are trying to take advantage of.”

Branthwaite has been labelled a ‘magnificent’ defender after an impressive start to the season under Sean Dyche.

The Englishman has been Everton’s standout performer at the back and it’s no surprise to see him attracting admiring glances already.

Spurs are in desperate need of extra quality at the back, with Ben Davies currently playing as a make-shift centre-back in Van de Ven’s absence.

Branthwaite would be an exceptional addition to the Spurs backline. But it’s difficult to see Everton sanctioning a sale mid-season.

Dyche still faces a battle to keep Everton out of trouble after their recent points deduction.
