Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has backed Richarlison to come good following the groin operation he had several weeks ago.
The Spurs boss, speaking to the Evening Standard, says the 26-year-old is now looking physically better and moving more freely since the operation.
Richarlison said at the start of November that he had struggled with health problems the past eight months and decided to go under the knife.
“The Brazil international will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately, before returning to training in the coming weeks,” Spurs said in a statement.
Richarlison has since returned to action, featuring against Manchester City and West Ham in the Premier League. He’ll fancy his chances of getting game time against Newcastle on Sunday as well.
Postecoglou acknowledged that the £90,000-a-week (Spotrac) ace is short of match fitness at present, but he backed the player to improve.
The Spurs boss also stressed that he and “all the guys” will be needed in the coming weeks during the busy festive period.
“Fair to say he looks a lot freer and better physically than he did earlier in the year when he was struggling,” said Postecoglou. “It seems like the medical intervention has been positive for him.
“He’s short of some match fitness but it was good to get him on last night for a bit more time.
“We’re going to need him, we’re going to need all the guys.
“The group that we’ve got at the moment is what we’re going to have between now and the foreseeable future. They’re the ones that are going to have turn their fortunes around.”
It’s good to hear that Richarlison is on the mend and moving more freely since the operation.
The player hasn’t been at his best in recent months, and the injury will have played a part, so hopefully things will get better for and from him going forward.
Richarlison is a good player. He was superb at both Watford and Everton, hence Spurs paying big money for him. He has also played and scored for Brazil at the World Cup.
Surely it’s only a matter of time before he gets back to his best. He’s on the right track now, that’s for sure.
