Spurs ready bid for Postecoglou favourite as January transfer injury solution

The January transfer window could be the most important part of the season for Tottenham as they prepare for a huge few weeks ahead. Under new boss Ange Postecoglou, the summer market was used to try and shape the squad in his view, with plenty of incomings and outgoings.
The loss of Harry Kane was seismic, but the business to land James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven helped bring hope to rejuvenating the squad. With such a shift in style of play, there was an expectation that it could take a while for the performances and results to pick up.
That wasn’t the case early on though as an unbeaten start pushed Spurs to the top of the league and there was plenty of hope for the future. However, results since haven’t quite gone to plan as three defeats on the spin have left the side in fifth and searching for their next victory.
A lot of the troubles will have stemmed from a host of injuries and suspensions in key areas that has exposed some of the squad depth issues. Whether it’s players that don’t fit the style of those that haven’t played in a while, Postecoglou’s need to stick with his style is one of long-term gain and short-term pain.
It highlights to Daniel Levy exactly what this team needs going forward to be as competitive as possible, with January offering a chance to address that in the transfer window. While there are a few key areas, one that has been rumoured with potential reinforcement is the forward ranks.
According to a report from the Times, Spurs are stepping up their interest in Al-Ittihad winger Jota, preparing a potential loan bid for January. The Portuguese forward played under Postecoglou at Celtic, becoming a favourite of his and catching the eye of plenty of teams.
With a summer switch linked, it was the move to Saudi Arabia that attracted him, but it soon became clear that things wouldn’t go as planned. Jota has barely featured for his new team, who pushed hard to land the likes of Fabinho, N’Golo Kante and Karim Benzema, with rules on a maximum number of foreign players denying him many chances to impress.
Instead, he has become something of an outcast, leading towards the possibility of an exit in the January transfer window. With game time desired and Spurs looking to add depth while spending their money wisely, it could be a deal that works for all the parties involved.
