Everton want to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom in January, former Middlesbrough star ‘open’ to move

Everton want to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom, with the player “open” to a move to the Premier League, according to TEAMtalk.

The publication reported on its website on Sunday (26 November) that his current club are ready to consider a loan deal.

TEAMtalk added that many of Everton’s Premier League rivals are also keen on the 28-year-old, such as Crystal Palace and Fulham.

“The reigning Championship Player of the Year could be handed a move back to the UK in January, just six months after leaving Middlesbrough for Ajax,” according to TEAMtalk.

“Sources have now told TEAMtalk that Akpom is open to the idea of a move to the Premier League and with Ajax ready to consider a loan deal, there is interest.

“Crystal Palace and Fulham are both very keen on a possible deal for the 28-year-old, while Everton, Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United are also keeping tabs on the situation.”

New striker needed?

Everton manager Sean Dyche spent plenty of time trying to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window. And one area that he focused heavily on was the final third, with the likes of Beto and Youssef Chermiti signed as strikers.

Fellow forwards Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison were also brought in on loan, with Dyche keen on adding more goals to his side.

The new arrivals came amid the injury struggles of star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but he has since recovered to earn a regular starting spot up front.

Goals, however, have not exactly been constant for the Toffees, meaning the man in the dugout could turn to former Championship star Akpom as soon as January.

But it seems that the manager will have a battle on his hands in trying to convince the 28-year-old to move to Goodison Park in the upcoming transfer window, with a whole host of clubs reportedly interested in his services.
