Joe Whitworth was called up to the England U20s, which has been newly-named the England men’s Elite League squad.
A new update surfaced from LondonNewsOnline journalist Edmund Brack, who reported that Whitworth was training with the England U21 squad this week ahead of their European qualifying clash against Northern Ireland tonight.
He didn’t make the match day squad for the match, but this was a huge update as it was the first time he has been involved in the U21 squad.
Whitworth is clearly highly-rated and looks to have a bright future. This, combined with a couple of other things, makes the purchase of Dean Henderson feel like a waste of money this summer.

Current number one goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been on top form ever since he replaced Vicente Guaita last season.

The English international has been praised for his performances this season and has kept five clean sheets in the Premier League so far. This is the joint-most.
The £15m signing of Henderson raised eyebrows at the time, but you could somewhat understand why he was brought in.
Johnstone is 30 and Guaita ruined his Palace legacy by refusing to be involved in the match day squad as he forced a move in summer.
Now though, the money spent is looking like a waste of money. Johnstone is on top form, Henderson has been injured since September and the club didn’t sign an attacker to replace legend Wilfried Zaha.
With Whitworth now getting called up to the England U21s at the age of 19, it emphasises the fact that Henderson was a waste of money. It looks like we have a top young goalkeeper in our squad who could replace Johnstone in the future.
Henderson may turn out to be a good signing long-term, but short-term he definitely feels like a waste of money and it could have a big impact on our season.
