Tottenham duo Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear strike as England U19s lift Marbella Cup
Tottenham Under-21 stars Will Lankshear and Jamie Donley just can’t stop scoring, at both club and international levels.
Five Tottenham Under-21 stars featured in the England Under-19s squad who lifted the Marbella Cup in style with a 7-1 victory against Mexico Under-19s on Tuesday 21 November.
Having beaten Romania Under-19s 6-0 and Japan Under-19s 3-2, thanks to a late Donley winner, during the previous two fixtures in the friendly tournament, the win over Mexico rounded off a positive trip to Spain for the Young Lions.
Donley and Ashley Phillips – who was captaining the side – both started against Mexico while there were spots on the bench for Lankshear, Alfie Dorrington and Luca Gunter.
By half-time Donley had already grabbed himself a brace as he continued an impressive run of form at international level which saw him score five goals across the tournament’s three games.
Unfortunately, an injury forced Phillips off at half-time with his side 5-1 up, but it was a testament to Spurs’ strength in depth among their youth ranks that the captain’s replacement was his club teammate, Dorrington, who helped his side to a second-half clean sheet.
Lankshear was introduced to proceedings and made it three in his last three, maintaining his 100 per cent scoring record at international level following his goalscoring England debut against Romania last week, and his strike against Japan on Saturday.
The red-hot form of Spurs’ young forwards is clearly showing no signs of slowing down as Donley and Lankshear both took their tallies for the season to 11 while out in Spain.
It means the pair will return to club action with even more confidence flowing through them when top-of-the-table Tottenham resume their Premier League Two campaign against Manchester United Under-21s on Saturday 2 December.
