Tottenham have announced another summer signing, with Will Lankshear joining from Sheffield United. The youngster has signed a deal until 2025 and he will join the Spurs academy.
Lankshear is a 17-year-old forward, who joined Sheffield at the beginning of last year. He has already captained their U18 team, with them securing the Professional Development League national title during an unbeaten last campaign.
After Lankshear’s now former side beat Reading 4-0 on Tuesday, manager Paul Heckingbottom revealed his thoughts on the youngsters’ move. “It’s a good deal for lots of reasons,” he said.
“We really like him as a player, we think he’s got a good gift to score goals and credit to the academy staff for getting him in last year.” The Blades boss suggested the forward had been offered a professional contract at United but remained on scholarship terms, making it more difficult for the club to keep him.
“Once you get certain clubs, right or wrong, making contact with the player and their dad, it becomes difficult. He’s our player and we had to make sure the deal is right,” Heckingbottom added.
Lankshear joined United last year, after being released from Arsenal and this summer there was also heavy interest from Brentford. Sky Sports reported that the 17-year-old is considered “among the best – if not the best – striker for his age group in England” and if he manages to succeed in the Tottenham academy, there could be a bright future ahead for the youngster.
