Tottenham transfer rumours rubbished by expert as new signigns expected

Expert: Tottenham set sights on ‘early January signing’ – ‘I fully expect’ star who can arrive on ‘1 January’
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes Tottenham “need bodies through the door” and expects the club “to be very active” during the January transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou currently finds himself with a very thin squad ahead of the busy festive period, leaving the Australian in a challenging situation.
Both Micky van de Ven and James Maddison are currently sidelined with long-term injuries, while Cristian Romero is suspended for the upcoming visit of Aston Villa and the trip to last season’s champions Manchester City.
With this in mind, Wenham believes that Tottenham have a lot of work to do during the January transfer window in order to build a deeper squad that is ready to compete.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Tottenham know the situation they are in, they need bodies through the door.
“There are a lot of games coming up and throughout January, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr will be at AFCON, while Son Heung-min will also be away at the Asian Games.
“Therefore, Spurs need to make signings who are ready to hit the ground running on 1 January.
“I know there are some rumours that Tottenham aren’t expected to do much in the January transfer window, but I don’t see that being the case.
“Clubs won’t come out and tell other clubs that they have money and are desperate to buy people, it doesn’t work like that.
“I fully expect Tottenham to be very active and to try and secure a left-sided centre back early on in the window.”
