Tottenham expert discusses form of Spurs loanee who is ‘absolutely flying’

Expert: Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine ‘absolutely flying’ with another move mooted
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham has detailed how Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine is “absolutely flying” with Port Vale this season, and insisted that “his confidence is clearly high.”
Devine joined EFL League Two side Port Vale on a season-long loan toward the end of the summer transfer window.
Throughout his short time at the club, the 19-year-old has made quite the impact, scoring the only goal in Port Vale’s 1-0 win against Mansfield, which saw the club through to the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
And Wenham has discussed the midfielder’s glowing form, and what it could mean going forward.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Devine’s loan move has been brilliant so far, he’s got 1000 minutes already under his belt, ten starts, three goals and three assists.
“He’s absolutely flying. Port Vale have made it to the Carabao Cup quarterfinal for the first time in their history and it was Devine who scored the goal to get them there.
“I am really pleased for him, his confidence is clearly high, and long may it continue.
“If he can reach 40 appearances by the end of the season, it would have been a fantastic first loan, and then next year, Tottenham can revisit his situation and perhaps look to get him a Championship loan.
“I think Tottenham will finish in the top four this year and will be playing in the UEFA Champions League, rather than the Europa League, so I don’t think there’s going to be lots of spare game time next season.
“Therefore, the best thing for Devine’s development would be to head out on loan again, do another 40 games, and then come back to Tottenham with hopefully 100 senior men’s games worth of experience.”
