Jimmy Butler Made NBA History In Heat-Bulls Game

On Saturday evening, the Miami Heat are in Chicago facing off against the Bulls at the United Center.
During the game, Jimmy Butler made NBA history by moving up on the all-time scoring list.
Butler came into the evening with 13,904 career points, and he has now passed five-time NBA Champion Ron Harper (13,910) and Alvan Adams (13,910) for 189th on the list.
The next player for Butler to pass will be Andre Iguodala (13,968).
Butler entered the matchup with averages of 21.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting 47.9% from the field and 47.8% from the three-point range in ten games.
The Heat are 8-4 in their first 12 games, which has them tied for the third seed in the Eastern Conference.
They are in the middle of a seven-game winning streak and most recently defeated the Brooklyn Nets by a score of 122-115 (at home) in Florida on Thursday.
In 35 minutes of playing time, Butler had 36 points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and three blocks while shooting 12/19 from the field and 2/5 from the three-point range.

The Boston Celtics have the best record in the Eastern Conference, and newcomer Jrue Holiday has fit in well with his new team. However, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla does want to see Holiday be more aggressive on offense moving forward. “Gotta be aggressive,” Holiday said when relaying the conversation he had with Mazzulla to Jay King of The Athletic. “Gotta go out there and take my shots. Really just be aggressive and be me. I know on this team we have so much talent that, especially offensively, I can defer to other people. So having that conversation, he wants me to go out there and be aggressive.” Holiday is averaging 13.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 5.3 assists for the Celtics this season while shooting 44.1% from the field, 35.1% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line. “There really hasn’t been a challenge (fitting in),” Holiday said. “I think it’s just more of a mindset. Being able to pick up where we lack. If it’s rebounding, then I’ll do that. If it’s paint touches to pass out and get good shots, I’ll do that. If it’s guarding the best player one through five, I’ll do that. But kind of what Joe was talking about was doing a lot of everything: being a scorer, being aggressive, as well as kind of being a dog on defense.” Holiday has always been a pass-first player. The NBA champion said coaches have asked him to shoot more often. “I guess it’s not really about trying,” Holiday said. “You just do it. I’m kind of a versatile player. So there’s things I can do to affect the game without having the ball. So if it’s offensive rebounding, if it’s rebounding in general, if it’s getting steals and deflections, making big plays, whatever it is. Again, just being a guy that sometimes I’ll get touches, sometimes I won’t. Some days I’ll get 15 shots, some days I’ll get four. I think just initially having the mindset of being aggressive, getting to the basket, playing through the paint is something that he wants.”

Miami Dolphins Give Concerning Update On Tyreek Hill After Gruesome Injury
The Miami Dolphins revealed a concerning update on wide receiver Tyreek Hill during the first half of their game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Dolphins had a few key players on offense leave the game Sunday. According to Cameron Wolfe with the NFL Network, running back De’Von Achane left the game with a knee injury and was ruled questionable to return. Losing Achane was terrible enough, but then Hill went down with what appeared to be a gruesome hand injury. He was seen walking off the field, holding his hand in pain. The Miami Dolphins have a concerning injury Per a statement by the Dolphins, Hill was ruled questionable to return. That’s a major concern for the Dolphins, who were in a close 14-10 ballgame. Hill was a main part of the Dolphins’ game plan Sunday and scored a touchdown reception before the injury.

No defense in the NFL has more interceptions than the San Francisco 49ers. But the way the team secured its league-leading 14th pick of the season was a combination of perfect timing and an unfortunate blooper at the hands of Baker Mayfield. On a third-and-6 with 3:38 left in the game from the 49ers 9-yard line, Mayfield dropped back and tried to hit receiver Chris Godwin in stride after breaking back toward the middle of the field on a snag route. Unfortunately for Mayfield, he found the helmet of 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw instead, causing the ball to bounce in the air where it was snagged by safety Ji’Ayir Brown in the end zone, halting Tampa’s best scoring threat since the first minute of the fourth quarter. It marked the second straight game that Mayfield was picked off. He’s now thrown an interception in six of his last eight games. It was also the first career interception for Brown, who’s played in just four games this season after being drafted in the third round of the 2023 draft out of Penn State. With 14 interceptions, the 49ers now have two more than the next-closest team, the Cincinnati Bengals. San Francisco has four players — Fred Warner (three), Talanoa Hufanga (three), Charvarius Ward (two) and Deommodore Lenoir (two) — with multiple interceptions and eight players with at least one.

Yankees Slugger Floated As Possible Trade Candidate For Superstar Juan Soto
The New York Yankees continue to be mentioned as a possible fit for one of baseball’s best players. The San Diego Padres are in a tough spot. San Diego — like New York — had a very underwhelming 2023 campaign and now is at a crossroads. The Padres have plenty of star power on the roster but reportedly need to cut $50 million in salary. This has led to plenty of speculation that Padres superstar Juan Soto will be traded this offseason. New York has been linked to Soto on numerous occasions over the last few weeks. The Yankees need to improve their offense this offseason and could use another left-handed bat in the lineup. Plus, the Yankees need help in the outfield. If the Yankees were to trade for Soto, one player who could be involved in the trade is slugger Giancarlo Stanton, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman. “But the return also is about San Diego’s level of desperation,” Sherman said. “There is some reporting that the Padres might have to cut as much as $50 million from the 2024 payroll. So could a team lower the return it would have to surrender if it were willing to, say, take on the seven years at $80 million owed Jake Cronenworth or even chip away some by absorbing the one year at $5 million due Matt Carpenter? “I assume even though he is from Southern California that Stanton (owed four years at $98 million) would not waive his no-trade clause (though he has 12 career homers in 81 at-bats — postseason included — at Petco Park) nor would Yu Darvish (five years at $78 million left). But taking on Stanton plus Yankees prospects for Soto, Cronenworth, and Darvish would save San Diego more than $90 million overall.” Stanton has been in the news lately after general manager Brian Cashman bashed him in the media. The five-time All-Star had a disastrous 2023 season but is just 34 years old so hopefully, he can bounce back next year. He likely will still be playing for the Yankees in 2024, but at this point, who knows?

Giants rookie CB calls out Commanders, WR Terry McLaurin
The New York Giants (3-8) embarrassed the Washington Commanders (4-7) on Sunday, 31-19, but that wasn’t good enough for rookie Deonte Banks. Seemingly still feeling the sting over the Commanders passing on him in the 2023 NFL Draft, the first-year cornerback went live on Instagram after the Giants win to talk some serious trash. “They could have came and got me at 16, and they didn’t,” Banks said via Complex Sports. “Now I’m 2-0 against you bum a– boys. F— the Commanders. They think they slick. They finna see me two times a year until the end of my career.” The Giants selected Banks 24th overall in last April’s draft, eight picks after the Commanders chose cornerback Emmanuel Forbes at No. 16. The former Mississippi State standout has suited up for 10 games this season, starting three for the Commanders, recording 27 tackles (two for loss), 10 pass defenses and an interception. Meanwhile, Banks has posted 40 tackles, nine pass defenses and an interception, starting all 11 games for the Giants. Banks had more ammo for the Commanders, deciding to single out arguably the team’s best weapon, wideout Terry McLaurin. “I’m just trying to figure out, did 17 play today?” Banks said. “That’s all I want to know. Did he play today? Did he play?” McLaurin had a fairly quiet day for the record, catching five of seven targets for 43 yards (8.3 YPC). Pettiness isn’t always a bad quality to have, especially if it inspires rookies like Banks. Furthermore, wins are hard to come by in the NFL, and by all means, teams should celebrate them. However, there’s also a time and place for everything.
