“Inside Verbruggen’s Mind: Managing the Highs and Lows of Football Stardom”
Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen disclosed that he has been working with a mental coach since he was 15 years old to ensure his mental well-being remains stable.
Speaking at a press conference during Euro 2024, the 21-year-old highlighted his recent achievement as the youngest goalkeeper in 20 years to start a European Championship match. Despite his rapid ascent in both club and international football over the past year and a half, Verbruggen emphasized that his progress hasn’t affected him mentally, attributing his composure to ongoing mental coaching.
He mentioned incorporating yoga and occasional meditation exercises at Brighton to stay balanced. Verbruggen also reflected on advice from Vincent Kompany, who coached him at Anderlecht, urging him not to get carried away by praise or criticism, a philosophy he continues to endorse.
