That’s according to Joe Thomas of the Liverpool Echo, who claimed that the Toffees boss had looked ‘nervous’.

Everton sat in 15th place in the Premier League prior to their trip to Selhurst Park, six points above the relegation zone.

The Eagles had won only one of their last four games and sat within touching distance in mid-table. It was the perfect opportunity for Everton to add another win to their growing collection.

Despite another early goal from Vitaliy Mykolenko, the Merseyside outfit looked set to pick up a second consecutive draw before Idrissa Gana Gueye came up with the goods only four minutes from full-time.

It was a sixth win in nine games in all competitions and Everton had moved eight points from the bottom three, though waiting for the full-time whistle seemed to have left Dyche looking ‘apprehensive’.

Speaking on the Royal Blue podcast, Joe Thomas said: “One of the things I found interesting was, with about five minutes to go and Everton leading, the camera picked up Sean Dyche.

“I’m not sure if this was shown on Match of the Day, but he looked nervous, apprehensive. That’s the first time I’ve seen him look like that in an Everton dugout.

“I think that probably gives a sense of him realising that he was on the cusp of taking a bigger leap forward than just the result in isolation would look.

“It was a result that had real meaning and depth to it because of what has gone on before it.”

Everton have a number of tough fixtures coming up as they take on the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea over the next month.

The Toffees have managed to sort out their problems in front of goal and have netted 17 goals in the last nine games, while their defence has also completely transformed since their humiliating defeat to Aston Villa.

Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski have formed an excellent partnership, with at least one of them named in the top 10 for the most interceptions, blocks, clearances and aerial battles won in the Premier League this season.

The clash with Crystal Palace was a very tough and gritty one, and you can tell the players worked very hard for it given the Eagles’ dominating possession and Everton’s number of fouls. However they were prepared to get stuck in and fight for those three points and that’s exactly what they did.

It shows a completely different side to Sean Dyche’s side and one that supporters should be very excited about.
