Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie not picked by Italy
Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie has not been picked by Luciano Spaletti for Italyās upcoming games in the Euro qualifiers.
The 20-year-old left-back continues to struggle with a muscle injury that he picked up while playing against Fulham.
He was forced off in the 2-0 victory against the Cottagers and missed the win at Crystal Palace. He returned to the starting line-up in the 4-1 win against Chelsea on Monday but was sent off for two bookings.
Football London journalist Alasdair GoldĀ suggested on X that he āunderstandsā that Udogie was not picked due to his recent injuries, and that itās just a āprecautionary measureā.
āDestiny Udogie not part of Italyās squad during this international break. Understand itās related to his recent injury and itās a precautionary measure,āĀ wrote Gold on X.
Injury concerns
Udogie was suspended for the Premier League game against Wolves which Tottenham lost 2-1.
He will not play in Italyās crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.Ā According to a report from Evening Standard, he is now a possible doubt when Spurs return to action at home to Aston Villa on November 26.
Tottenham are already missing Michy van de Ven who could be out until January, while Cristian Romero will serve the second of a three-match ban against Villa.
Spurs are also missing the likes of James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Richarlison through injuries.
The international break couldnāt have come at a better time for Spurs, and Ange Postecoglou will hope to get Udogie fit by the time they face Villa. However, Maddison, Sessegnon and Richarlison are long-term absentees.
