Report: Tottenham are now leading the race to sign 26-year-old winger – Spurs Web – Tottenham Hotspur Football News
Genova Today have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have moved into pole position ahead of multiple Serie A clubs in the race for Genoa winger Albert Gudmundsson.
Gudmundsson was outstanding in Serie B for Genoa last season, playing a key role in the club securing promotion and the versatile attacker has taken the Italian top-flight by storm so far this season, with five goals in 12 league games (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham’s interest in the 26-year-old first came to light last week when SOS Fanta reported that the Lilywhites were ‘very attentive’ to the attacker’s situation, having ‘sent emissaries on more than one occasion’ to watch him in action this season.
The report added that Tottenham are not alone in their admiration of the Iceland international, with AS Roma also keen on securing his services.
Spurs are now frontrunners for Gudmundsson
Genova Today have now asserted that apart from Roma, Inter Milan who are keeping tabs on Gudmundsson’s situation.
The report asserts that it is Tottenham who are ‘in the front row’ for the wide-forward, with the North London club said to be watching the player for ‘some time’.
However, it is explained that Genoa are aware of the growing interest in the player and have been working to tie him down.
In fact, the publication asserts that the contract negotiations between the Italian club and Gudmundsson’s representatives have already ‘concluded’, which perhaps suggests that an official announcement is just around the corner.

This could well be another case of the player’s agents feeding these transfer rumours to the press in order to strengthen their position during the negotiations over a new contract.
