Jurgen Klopp now delivers his honest verdict on Kostas Tsimikas’ display for Liverpool against Brentford

Jurgen Klopp has praised Kostas Tsimikas’ performance against Brentford on Sunday, with the Liverpool defender claiming two assists in a 3-0 win.

Speaking to Viaplay after the match, the Anfield boss was pleased with how the 27-year-old left-back handled the game after a difficult few weeks for Tsimikas in the Liverpool XI.

The defender has acted as deputy for the injured Andy Robertson for the past month, and Klopp was pleased to see Tsimikas put on a good performance for Liverpool on the weekend against Brentford.

The boss said: “We all know how good Kostas can be, but now he has the opportunity. The first performance maybe isn’t great, then you start thinking, I can only help the boys. You cannot change it.

“Most of the work the boys have to do themselves. Then you saw the first assist, it just opened up and then it’s football again that’s how it goes.

“Super important and really happy for him. The situation is not always easy when Robbo is fit and today you can see again how good a player he is.”

Tsimikas’ Liverpool career was beginning to look like something of a disappointment despite some heroic moments that have made the defender a cult hero at Anfield.

Yet Sunday’s performance might have just changed that completely, with the Greek international putting on one of his best displays yet in a Liverpool shirt against Brentford.

Tsimikas might not be able to give what Robertson gives the Reds, but there’s no denying that the defender is willing to give it his all for Liverpool, and Sunday’s performance was something to behold.
