What Virgil van Dijk said to Trey Nyoni in Liverpool training

Jay Spearing has detailed what Virgil van Dijk told Trey Nyoni in Liverpool training after the teenager was named on the bench today against Brentford.

Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, the academy coach revealed that the Reds captain is a massive fan of Nyoni, with Van Dijk speaking to the 16-year-old on numerous occasions.

Nyoni was named amongst Jurgen Klopp’s substitutes today in Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brentford, with the teenager only joining the Anfield side form Leicester City this summer.

One of England’s highest-rated prospects, Nyoni has progressed through Liverpool’s ranks at breakneck speed, and Spearing has revealed how much Van Dijk rates the teenage midfielder.

Spearing said about Van Dijk’s fondness for Nyoni behind the scenes: “Virgil came up to him and congratulated on training with them.

“He said ‘he’s got a lot more to come’ and he really liked him. Virgil also came out to watch the U-18s against Middlesbrough to see how Trey was playing.”

Few players are respected at Liverpool in this current squad than Van Dijk, and Nyoni catching the captain’s eye already is nothing short of impressive.

The Dutch international is one of the most influential players at the club, and getting in Van Dijk’s good books will get Nyoni far this season.

Indeed, the midfielder has a big future in the game, and Liverpool fans will be excited to see Nyoni develop into the world beater many expect the teenager to become.
