Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was left frustrated after his side suffered 3-2 home defeat to Everton in the Premier League
Roy Hodgson believes Crystal Palace deserved a point after they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Everton.
Idrissa Gueye secured an impressive win for the Blues at Selhurst Park with four minutes of normal time remaining after they were pegged back by the hosts.
Vitalii Mykolenko and Abdoulaye Doucoure twice put the visitors in front but Palace restored parity on both occasions thanks to efforts from Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Edouard.
The defeat for the Eagles means they have won just one of their last five Premier League outings. Meanwhile, Sean Dyche’s side move eight points clear of the relegation zone with a sixth win in their last nine matches in all competitions.
“Well, it was [a frustrating day] because you concede so early in the first half then we did well, worked very hard to get that equaliser,” Hodgson said. At half-time we were fairly confident we could continue in the way we had been playing which had given us ascendancy in large parts of the game, only to concede again a matter of minutes later.
“I thought it was a good effort and we actually played well then to get the 2-2 goal which would’ve been a good result after we had been behind twice.
“To concede a third goal is very frustrating and saddening really, it leaves me feeling we could have or should’ve done better to hold on to the point we had and deserved when we equalised.
“I don’t think you should look for positives when you lose 3-2 at home to a team, who for large periods we had the measure of and dealing with. It was a close game, they’re a hard team to beat, they’re very dangerous with their crosses and attacking the box.
“But I felt for large periods we dealt with it well, certainly in the first half we looked dangerous, which brought us an equaliser. That should’ve been enough to make me a lot happier than I am at this moment, this evening.”
