Tottenham Hotspur are fearing that Micky van de Ven is set for a long spell out of action as a result of the hamstring injury which he suffered in Monday night’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The Dutch international pulled up sharply in first half injury time clutching the back of his right leg after attempting to sprint back towards his own goal in a race against Nicolas Jackson which left him in some distress on the playing surface of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Telegraph report that estimates suggest that the pacey defender could be out of action until January at the earliest, however, he is yet to undergo a scan on the muscle with the club still to put a timeframe on his recovery.
Tottenham will also be without fellow central defender Cristian Romero for the trip to Wolves on Sunday lunchtime with the Argentine serving the first of his three-match suspension following his red card against their London rivals earlier in the week.
Tottenham definitely need to dip into the transfer market as soon as it opens in January to bring in a defender with some pace to help with Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.
Both Eric Dier and Ben Davies lack the pace required to act as a cover, in the manner that Micky van de Ven provided and instead had to resort to Vicario operating as a sweeper-keeper in the second half with Spurs playing such a high defensive line.
