You don’t notice him’… Joe Cole says £60m Arsenal target doesn’t get the credit he deserves sometimes
One of the players Arsenal have been linked with is Marc Guehi, and Joe Cole is a fan.
The former Chelsea and Liverpool star has outlined what makes Crystal Palace defender Guehi so special.
So, what has Joe Cole said about Arsenal target Marc Guehi? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, Joe Cole was raving about Crystal Palace and England international central defender Marc Guehi on Channel 4 on Monday evening.
The former England international was pleased to see Guehi start for England against North Macedonia.
Cole outlined the attributes of the 23-year-old defender that make him so good.
Arenal have been linked with Guehi. The Sun reported in October that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta sees the defender “as part of his long-term plans and is both willing and happy to wait” until the summer of 2024 to make a bid for him.
Football Insider has reported interest in the defender from Manchester United, noting that Palace want at least £60 million for him.

Joe Cole said about Marc Guehi on Channel 4 (7:28pm, November 20, 2023): “What I like about Marc Guehi is he is one of the centre halves you don’t notice him.
“He does his job with a calmness and assuredness that gravitates throughout the team when he plays.
“He is good on the ball, he is certainly in the driving seat [to be third choice for Euros] and one thing Gareth Southgate will know is a centre-half.”
Joleon Lescott said: “What I will say about Marc is that you will see the value and quality of Marc through the quality of striker he goes against.
“He goes unnoticed against most teams but when he plays against top, top performers he will match that.”
Lescott added: “He plays with a level of patience and calmness you don’t associate with centre-halves that young. He came from a very good academy in Chelsea and is very composed in possession.
“What he loves to do is put himself in the right position and put his body on the lines but when the opportunity is there to step in between the lines he will do that.”
Arsenal should keep tabs on Marc Guehi
In my opinion, Arsenal are not going to be able to sign Marc Guehi from London and Premier League rivals Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.
I do not see Palace selling one of the best and most important players in the January transfer window.
However, a summer transfer could happen. If Arsenal made a big offer for Guehi at the end of the season, then they could be able to sign the 23-year-old central defender.
William Saliba and Gabriel are the two main centre-backs at Arsenal at the moment. Ben White is also an option for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, but the former Leeds United loanee is being played at right-back this season.
Jurrien Timber, who is injured at the moment, is another very good central defender on the books of Arsenal, but Jakub Kiwior could leave.
So, you could say that Arsenal are not in ‘desperate’ need of another centre-back, but if the North London club are to win the Premier League title on a regular basis and compete in the UEFA Champions League, then they need a very strong squad.
