Ivan Perišić underwent a successful operation in Austria – what the doctor says
Croatia in the week of 27.9.2023 in Sport
Croatia winger Ivan Perišić underwent surgery in Innsbruck, Austria on Tuesday and today posted a photo from his hospital bed with his fingers crossed.
The 34-year-old suffered an ACL injury in his right knee during non-contact training with his club Tottenham last week.
After Monday’s successful operation, Perišić will spend a few more days in the clinic before moving to London for rehabilitation. He is undergoing a gradual rehabilitation where it is important not to rush things.
“50 percent is a surgical procedure and 50 percent is a rehabilitation process. At first he can squeeze his leg. After 3-4 weeks he can start riding a bike and after three months he can start running. The challenge is that contact with the opponents is no longer possible, Saša Janković, doctor of the Croatian Football Association, told Dnevnik.hr.
Perišić’s work ethic is unquestionable and Croatia fans will be hoping he doesn’t suffer any more setbacks after recovering from a serious knee injury.
“He is an experienced player with a long football career, so we can expect the best form from him,” says Janković. In an ideal scenario, Perišić could play a few games before Euro 2024 in Germany, where Croatia look set to qualify.
We believe he has enough time to regain his top form.
