Everton’s radio silence this transfer window speaks volumes of the fear the Premier League has instilled not just in them, but the entire division.
A mere pittance has been spent across the 20 clubs, many of whom could certainly do with some serious upgrades.
November’s ten-point deduction has left others frightened of what overspending might do to them, and last week’s alleged second breach only emphasises this newfound policy set to stunt the progress of most clubs.
However, that did not stop the Toffees from relentlessly pursuing Wilfried Gnonto throughout the summer, and eyeing him again this month from afar.
Alas, it seems that is a ship set to sail. But that does not close the door completely on any deals with Leeds United…

That is what is being reported by numerous outlets, who all suggest that confidence is growing that they will soon come to an agreement.

That is what has made Jack Harrison’s loan deal such a successful one, and likely a deal that Sean Dyche would be keen to make permanent.
However, it has been revealed that the Yorkshire outfit will command a lofty £30m figure to pry him permanently. Should they fail to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking though, that is a fee that could well be reduced.
How good has Jack Harrison been for Everton?
The 27-year-old was always expected to hit the ground running at Goodison Park, but few likely thought he would instantly become such an integral cog in their system.
It is a testament to his quality and ability to seamlessly slot into the side that he has started the last 14 Premier League matches since recovering from the back injury he arrived with, scoring twice and assisting a further three.
However, it is his work rate that will have Dyche keen, with journalist Joe Thomas even highlighting his ‘relentless’ debut performance in the EFL Cup.

As well as his tireless creativity, the Englishman is also managing 5.2 ball recoveries per game in the league, further emphasising those defensive credentials that set him apart from Gnonto.
Although a far less attractive option, few can argue that as an alternative to the youngster, he represents the best value. Especially with the former FC Zurich ace set to secure his long-term future in Leeds.
