He deserves it’: Neil Warnock now weighs in on Paul Heckingbottom sack talk ahead of Wolves fixture

Neil Warnock has been having his say on Sheffield United and Paul Heckingbottom after being asked the question this morning.

Warnock was speaking on TalkSPORT when Alan Brazil mentioned that he believes Warnock will get a call from the United board if Paul Heckingbottom is sacked.

However, trying to keep an element of class about himself, Warnock didn’t want to get drawn in, instead, throwing his weight behind backing Heckingbottom.

Speaking on TalkSPORT in response to Brazil’s comments, the former Blades boss had this to say.

“Paul Heckingbottom is doing a fantastic job and I don’t think anybody can do any better with what he’s had. He’s lost his two best players in the summer, there are all sorts of names being mentioned,” Warnock said.

“I’m sure they are all trying to vie for the job. But I think the Prince will give him a few more games, me. Quite rightly so. I think he deserves it. Because he’s not spent a lot of money. I’m supportive of Paul.”

Warnock is being heavily linked with a move back to QPR, a club he has openly spoken of his love for.

His appointment back at Bramall Lane would surely be met with frustrating by United fans. Another former boss, Chris Wilder, has also been tipped to replace Hecky.

Sheffield United News View: No thank you, Neil

While Warnock’s legacy at Bramall Lane is secured from the past, the idea of him returning now is one most fans wouldn’t comprehend.

Sure, if we were in the Championship and needed the ship steadying, then yes, Warnock would be ideal at the right time.

But we are a Premier League club fighting to get results with an injury-ravaged squad. Warnock hasn’t managed in the Prem for some time and there’s probably a reason for that.

So while Warnock will do a job somewhere, we don’t think it’s at Sheffield United.
