Following some concern, newly-signed swingman Cam Reddish will remain available for your Los Angeles Lakers tonight as they head up north to face off against the Sacramento Kings.
The 6’8″ forward has been battling a minor foot injury, but hasn’t had to miss a game just yet. That trend will continue tonight, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Across his first two contests as a Laker, Reddish is averaging a modest 5.5 points on .444/.200/1.000 shooting splits, along with 2.5 boards and 0.5 blocks a night. He seems to have assumed the reserve shooting guard spot that I for one figured second-year wing Max Christie would earn this year, and is even averaging more minutes than $51 million man Rui Hachimura for some reason.
On some level, I get it. He’s incredibly athletic, if still somewhat raw, and Darvin Ham is probably salivating at his positional versatility from a defensive perspective. But he can’t really score and still struggles to be adhere to a given offensive system.
Christie, who hails from the regimented world of Tom Izzo at MSU, may not have Reddish’s upside, but he has the outline of the exact kind of 3-and-D wing that I think would be optimal alongside non-shooting LA superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
