Forest ‘consider axing’ Steve Cooper with ex-Spurs boss in frame to take over
Nottingham Forest’s results have nosedived in recent weeks and Steve Cooper’s position is now under threat with Nuno Espirito Santo considered as his replacement
Cooper knew that the Tottenham game on Friday was potentially defining for him and a 2-0 reverse, which came nine days after a 5-0 hammering at Fulham, could prove to be the final straw for the City Ground hierarchy.
The Welshman helped get Forest back in the Premier League after more than two decades away and then secured their top flight status last term. However they’ve lost six of their last eight and tumbled down the table with a change potentially imminent according to reports.
The Forest owner has shown himself to be trigger happy in the past before settling on Cooper. The ex-Swansea boss is the longest serving manager at the club for well over a decade, but Nuno could be about to return for a third crack at the Premier League with Forest currently sat in 17th.
The Portuguese boss had been a success at Wolves before he moved on to Tottenham, where he lasted just ten games before getting the chop. Last month he was sacked by Saudi outfit Al-Ittihad, where he coached the likes of Karim Benzema had a 64 per cent win percentage.
Cooper was left to bemoan errors by goalkeeper Matt Turner on Friday as he gifted goals to Tottenham, but the Forest boss underlined his love for the role he’s in.
He said on his shotstopper: “It is not something that should happen at this level. We have to own stuff we can do better – sometimes it will be individual, sometimes collective. We’ll review it over the weekend. There are real little moments of quality we are not delivering.
