The Chicago Bulls signed Derrick Favors to a training camp contract.
Derrick Favors last played in the NBA during the 2021-2022 season when he was part of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
That year, the former Georgia Tech star averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 51.6% from the field in 39 games.
Last season, Favors signed a ten-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks but did not appear in a game.
On Monday night, the Chicago Bulls announced that they had signed the 32-year coaching contract. Via the Chicago Bulls: “OFFICIAL: We have signed center Derrick Favors and forward Kahlil Whitney to camp terms.”
Favors was originally the third pick of the New Jersey Nets in the 2010 NBA Draft after playing one season of college basketball with the Yellow Jackets.
More than 12 seasons in the NBA, he played for the Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans, New Jersey Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
His career averages are 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks. He shoots 53.4% from the field in 790 regular season games (he also played in 42 NBA playoff games).
As for the Bulls, they are coming off a year in which they were 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 40-42 record.
The Bulls have missed the NBA playoffs the past five seasons, but have a talented roster led by DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine. They will play their first regular season game on October 25th when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.
