Chelsea have issued an official statement confirming that Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka have picked up knocks ahead of the Blues’ clash against Arsenal. Mauricio Pochettino will welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, however the Argentine will be without the duo.

Chalobah has been nursing a thigh injury this season, meanwhile Chukwuemeka has struggled with a knee problem despite only recently returning to full first-team training at Cobham. The duo will not be the only doubts for the west Londoners’ upcoming fixture, with Reece James also plotting his comeback from the treatment room.

“Defender Trevoh Chalobah and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka have both suffered recent setbacks in their bid to return from respective injuries sustained earlier this season,” read an official club announcement. “The duo will now go under further review before continuing their rehabilitation at Cobham with the club’s medical staff.”

Interestingly, Chelsea did not offer an update on James, who has been nursing a hamstring issue since the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. According to Nathan Gissing – journalist for Italian outlet Di Marzio – the Blues captain has recently sustained a knock in training.

The report states that a scan later adjudged him to be ‘fine’ but, as a precaution, the England international has been training alone, making him a doubt for the Arsenal clash. If James to to miss the clash, then Malo Gusto is expected to fill in at right-back after serving a three-match ban.

“We give each other a lot of advice, he tries to help me and I try to help him as best I can,” said Gusto. “On the pitch, it’s war, he knows it very well, we don’t necessarily give each other any favours and it’s the best who will play.”
