Blake Corum named finalist for Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award
Michigan Wolverines running back, Blake Corum is making big waves on and off the field, most recently being named as one of three finalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award. Corum is joined by Texas Tech’s Tony Bradford and Virginia’s Mike Hollins as finalists.
The Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year started in 2017 to recognize “the FBS college football player who has demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field,” per the award’s press release.
This season, Corum not only ran for 1,028 yards and 24 touchdowns, but he also gave back to the community in a variety of ways off the field.
Using his NIL money, he has generously contributed money and many hours of his time to helping the Ann Arbor community and the nearby areas of Ypsilanti and Detroit, Mich., in addition to his hometown in Virginia.
Corum provided more than 600 Thanksgiving turkey meals and donated gallons of milk for those in need in Ypsilanti this Thanksgiving through his ‘Giving Back 2 Give Thanks’ event. This event has been going on for three years, however, and he has donated more than 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to the community.
In addition, Corum organized a back-to-school program that gave the community backpacks filled with school materials. He also led two holiday toy drives (2021 and 2023) working with the Detroit Police Athletic League and Detroit Rescue Mission Ministry. He has been involved in school visits, guest speaking engagements, and reading to children.
The winner of the award receives a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school’s athletic scholarship fund from Witten’s SCORE Foundation, the official charity of Jason and his wife Michelle. The winner will be presented at a ceremony in Frisco, Texas, on February 15, 2024.
