After Moises Caicedo, journalist claims another player is desperate to join Liverpool
Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is still set on joining Liverpool, despite their move for Moises Caicedo.
Liverpool had been pushing to sign Lavia over recent weeks, seeing three bids rejected for the Belgian. But having since sensed an opportunity to get Caicedo, it seems the Reds may now end their interest in the 19-year-old.
Sadly, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, that looks like it would be a huge blow to Lavia. Writing on Twitter yesterday evening, Tavolieri reported that the teenager still wanted to join Liverpool, despite an offer from Chelsea.
“Situation remains the same and his mind, clear,” says the journalist. “Even after bid of Chelsea rejected of this morning, I’ve been told Romeo Lavia likes Liverpool and wants to be in Liverpool FC.
“Poker game with Moises Caicedo’s case will be decisive tonight and have an impact on the Belgian midfielder’s future but it’s now up to the clubs. Time is running.”

Having just made one of the most unexpected moves we’ve ever seen in the transfer market, you can’t second guess Liverpool this summer.
But with the agreed fee for Caicedo being so big, we can’t see how they come back in for Lavia, too.
There’s also an argument that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t need both players. Given Caicedo’s quality, his addition alone – alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai – may be enough.
It’s clear that Caicedo is also being slated as the Fabinho successor in defensive midfield. Liverpool don’t really need two new players in that role, with Stefan Bajcetic able to offer cover.
So, unfortunately, it looks as though Lavia will probably miss out on his dream move this summer. He should get another, he’s an ‘incredible’ player [Pep Guardiola via mancity.com]. But it probably won’t be the one he wants.
The one sliver of hope left for him may be that Thiago Alcantara’s future still isn’t certain. The Spaniard is reportedly intent to rebuff any bids that arrive for him over the coming weeks, but that stance could still be tested.
Regardless, Thiago will be leaving Anfield next summer at the latest, when his contract runs out. So, Liverpool may want to prepare for that. In that case, Lavia should be the man.
