Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane has previously revealed he turned down a transfer to Liverpool.

The talented attacker arrived in the Premier League in 2016 from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 for an undisclosed fee. The move saw him join up with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side as he went on to enjoy a successful period at the Etihad until departing for Munich in 2020.

On Saturday night, the Mirror reported that Liverpool were eyeing a move for Sane as they look to plan for life after Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian has seen his future be subject to intense scrutiny following interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad in the summer. The reigning champions of the top-flight in the kingdom tabled a verbal bid of up to £150m on the eve of transfer deadline day in August.

With the speculation surrounding Salah’s future, a record-breaking Reds move for Sane has been mooted. And against that backdrop, it cannot be forgotten that the German has already detailed how close he came to joining Liverpool prior to his switch to Man City

“Yes, I was also talking with them. Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City,” Sane told the Guardian in 2018.
