Enzo Maresca celebrates as the full-time whistle is blown on Leicester City’s 1-0 win over Bristol City
Leicester City are the form team in the Championship, there can be no doubt about that. Ten wins from 11 games and with no signs of slowing up mean they could well stay there all season.
Enzo Maresca could not be much happier, at least in terms of results even if his perfectionist management style means he will probably never be completely content with performance levels.
Leicester are being tipped to go straight back up by anyone you care to listen to, supercomputers even have them challenging Reading’s historic points tally of 106. But there have been tests so far.
Indeed arguably the biggest test of the Maresca tenure will come in the next few weeks, in the run of fixtures between Saturday, October 21 and the next international break which starts after the Foxes visit Middlesbrough on November 11.
That trip to The Riverside will complete a massively testing run of games in which Leicester face three away matches and only two at home and while the task at Queen’s Park Rangers doesn’t look too daunting, the other four are against some of the most in-form teams in the league.
Resurgent Boro are currently third in the form table, Swansea fourth, Leeds fifth and Sunderland seventh and if Maresca’s men are still rolling along as they are now they’ll be a third of the way through the season and virtually unstoppable.
However, if the division’s other aspiring clubs can interrupt their momentum things might not be quite as smooth as they look at present.
