Brentford striker Ivan Toney continues to be linked with a transfer to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The 27-year-old is currently serving an eight-month ban from football after breaching Football Association betting rules.

But that hasn’t stopped speculation surrounding the England international’s future at the Gtech Community Stadium. Reports have recently emerged that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a new centre-forward during the winter window, with Toney potentially available at the right price.

Arsenal eye January move
According to The Mirror, Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Toney ahead of the January transfer window.‌ Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is said to be targeting a move for the England international, who is available for a fee in the region of £60million. Arteta reportedly wants to bring a proven goalscorer to his attack, with Toney’s physicality also said to be a huge plus for the Spaniard.

New Price Tag

According to Fabrizio Romano, Brentford are expected to demand in the region of £50million to £60million for Toney’s signature. The Italian journalist confirmed that the striker wants to leave the west London club, recently appointing a new agency to take care of his future.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has claimed that his club would be open to selling Ivan Toney in the midst of his eight-month suspension from all footballing activities. The Bees have won just one of their opening five league games without the 27-year-old, who has a line of suitors ready to splash out for his services come January.

“I think every club in the world is a selling club apart from five or six clubs. We are a selling club if the right price is there,” Frank admitted on Monday Night Football. “I think it’s the right timing for the player to go, that is not my decision in the end.

“If they build well with us on this journey, and now prove they are good enough to go to the top clubs, but for the right price. Yes, it does apply to him too (Toney), I understand why there are a lot of rumours out there, for me, as a striker and a number nine, I don’t see many others better than him in the world.

“You have [Harry] Kane, Robert [Lewandowski], and [Erling] Haaland, but not many scored 20 goals in the Premier League for a very good Brentford side of course, we are not creating as many chances as the top six teams, so imagine him in a top team, he would easily score 20/25 goals.

“I think he’s composed, a good mentality, a good finisher so I can see why clubs are looking at him. But, he’s a Brentford player, and if other clubs want to come, in today’s market, the prices for number six players, we know that attacking players are the most expensive ones so I guess that will be very expensive.”

Toney plan laid out

Thomas Frank has opened up on Ivan Toney ahead of the striker’s return to training, with the England international allowed to return to train from Monday.

“It’s very good to have him back, he’s a very good player but more importantly a person to have around the group,” Frank said when asked about Toney on Thursday. “I’m pretty sure he’s also very happy to be allowed back in to play football and to be around his team-mates that he loves to be around. He’s vibrant, definitely, and he’ll give us a lift. We’d prefer to have him in the team, but that’s not possible.”

Brentford stance
Chelsea are still pushing to sign Toney, but Brentford are keen to see what other clubs are seriously interested, according to Simon Phillips. This could see the likes of Arsenal and Spurs enter the race to sign Toney – resulting in a bidding war for the England international.

Toney is set to return to action on January 17 when his ban ends and the 27-year-old has continued to train to maintain his fitness and sharpness.

Chelsea plan

According to Simon Phillips, the Blues have even looked at trying to do a pre-deal to sign him. There has been no agreement reached so far, but that doesn’t mean that it wont be down the line.

Instagram hint

Ivan Toney has dropped a hint over his future with a post showing the Brentford striker continuing to train during his suspension. Toney captioned his post: “I didn’t come this far to only come this far.”

The caption may hint that he is pushing to keep his sharpness and fitness with a number of top clubs considering a move to sign the England international in the January transfer window.

Chelsea favourites

According to London World, Chelsea are leading the race to sign Ivan Toney ahead of the January transfer window. The report states that the Brentford star is Mauricio Pochettino’s ideal choice, meeting three crucial criteria; English, age, and proven in the Premier League.

Former England international Jay Bothroyd has urged Arsenal to try and sign Toney as a replacement for current first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus. Speaking about the 27-year-old on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social, Bothroyd said said: “[Toney’s] an A for me, he scores goals, he’s prolific, he’s strong, he leads the line really well.

“If you put him in one of the top teams he will score at least 20 Premier League goals per season. Great on penalties, penalties he’s unbelievable. If you took him to someone like Arsenal, I would love Arsenal to sign him now. I think he would score more goals than Jesus, than Ollie Watkins, in the Premier League.”

Agent decision

Toney may have hinted that his future lies away from the Gtech Community Stadium by recently announcing that he has signed with Jonathan Barnett’s CAA Stellar Agency, who count Jack Grealish and Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga among their clients.

The England international is now into the final two years of his contract with the Bees, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs continuing to be linked with a potential transfer.

According to the Evening Standard, Ivan Toney is under consideration as a potential target for the winter window.

Brentford decision

Brentford may have dropped a potential hint regarding Toney’s future with the club after verbally agreeing a loan deal to sign Everton striker Neal Maupay with the option to buy him permanently. Writing on X – formerly known as Twitter – transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said: “EXCLUSIVE: Brentford reached verbal agreement to sign Neal Maupay on loan with buy option from Everton. #DeadlineDay Player on his way to medical tests right now.”

The Bees’ decision to bring in a frontman may of course just be a coincidence but some sceptical fans argued that this means the England international could now be leaving the club in January, with Maupay a potential long-term successor.

Toney has now admitted that he wants to one day play for an elite club but remained coy regarding talk of a move away from the west London club. Speaking about rumours regarding a move away from the Bees, Toney told the Diary of a CEO YouTube podcast: “I don’t let this all affect me.

“Obviously, it will go on in the background but my job is to keep training well when I get the chance. In the games, keep scoring and doing well but I think that everybody wants to play at the top of the tree.

“Not that Brentford aren’t there, but I feel like playing for a big club, fighting for trophies, these kind of things, everybody wants to do. If the chance was to come along, I think I would be silly not to look more into it.”

Toney admitted his admiration for Arsenal when asked about supporting Liverpool growing up. When speaking about being a Reds fan he told the Diary of a CEO YouTube podcast: “Yeah, I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life but from young I’ve liked Arsenal. I’ve liked watching Arsenal from how they play and kind of how passionate (their) fans are.”

According to The Independent, both Chelsea and Tottenham are prepared to go head-to-head to try and sign Toney in the January transfer window as both London clubs look to bolster their attacking options.
