Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham handed international break boost ahead of Premier League return

The 2023/24 season very much has a stop-start feel to it from a Tottenham Hotspur perspective. Top of the Premier League table as things stand after recording 20 points from their first eight games of the season, Spurs fans would no doubt like the league games to continue given the team’s current momentum.

That unfortunately isn’t the case as we have now reached the second international break of the season. It only seems like two minutes ago that the players jetted off across the globe for September’s international break, the pause in play has come after only four Tottenham matches.

The lack of European and Carabao Cup football means that Spurs only have another four games on the calendar before domestic football pauses in early November for the final international fixtures of the year. There is nothing Ange Postecoglou and Spurs can do about the international breaks, though, and all will be hoping that those heading away from Hotspur Way come back unscathed ahead of the Premier League home match against Fulham.

Usually a time when everyone connected with the club are watching the games through their fingers, October’s international break could have its plus points for the Lilywhites. Two players set to get some vital minutes under their belt over the next fortnight include Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso.

The 2023/24 season has been a very frustrating one for Hojbjerg as his minutes have decreased dramatically after dropping out of the Tottenham XI. Previously one of the first names on the teamsheet, the Dane now has a bit-part role to play under Postecoglou and has had to contend with minutes off the bench.

September’s international football fixtures proved to be very successful for the player as he scored in Demark’s wins over San Marino and Finland. The hope is that the player can take his form from the last break into this one and come back in confident mood, especially as there’s a very good chance he will be in the starting XI against Fulham.
